Can Popcorn Kernels Grow?

Scientist in second grade wanted to know if popcorn kernels could grow and if so, could they grow without soil? To test our hypothesis, we gently wrapped some kernels in damp paper towels and hung them on the window for a few days.

Look what happened after a few days in the sunlight....

We also experimented with ears of dried Indian Corn. We placed one in water and one in soil.

After a week...we discovered that the ear of corn in the water started to sprout.

The corn that was placed in soil did not change at all.

It's a Matter of Fact!

First graders concluded their unit on Matter by making homemade butter. We watched a liquid turn into a solid by shaking jars of cream just like the Pilgrims did on Thanksgiving!

Sink or Float?

Pre-k students learned about buoyancy and tested objects to see if they would float or sink in fresh and salt water. Then we made clay boats so our gummy bears wouldn't get wet!
